At twenty years young, NetHack is one of - if not the - oldest games still being developed.
Starting out just after a battle between the Gods “Moloch” and “Marduk,” you are sent on a quest through the near-infinite depths of a massive dungeon to retrieve the Amulet of Yendor.
Since 1987, NetHack has been in constant development. If you’ve played it before, chances are you’re still playing it. If you haven’t, let me run down the main points in the hopes that you will pick it up.
First of all, the download is only 2MB. That’s two. For the short amount of time it will take to get to your computer, you’ll get a completely immersive experience. There are literally hundreds of hours of game play here, where each dungeon you enter is randomly generated, each time you play the game. The quests you embark upon are many and varied and the chances of completing the main task are slim – you will need to practice for a great deal of time before you become a master.
There’s nothing that can be said about NetHack which hasn’t been said before, so I won’t try. All that can be truly said is – this game is NetHack.
