Two opposing sides, one green, one red – face off attempting to obliterate eachother.
First came Bacteria. Its an alright game. There are two “armies” – swarms of bacteria which decide to destroy eachother. The green one is good, the red is bad. They are equal in strength, agility, ability and everything they can do. There is only one difference – you control the green.
Fast-forward through Bacteria, a never-ending series of randomly created games and stop at Bacteria 2. Graphically improved, game play enhanced, power-up fueled and all held together with a vague semblance of story, this sequel is everything a sequel should be. Take the original idea, add more to it, don’t lose the originals’ essence and that’s exactly what it is.
The sequel gives you something the original didn’t – a reason to come back and play again. There are thirty levels to complete in arcade mode, which unlock bonus levels. The original game is presented in new format in Classic mode with three difficulty levels, which also unlock bonus levels. In all there are nine challenges to complete and doing so gives you bonus levels. Completing all of these unlocks a mega-level, and you’ll need all the preparation you can get before attempting this one.
The idea of pitting two opposing forces against each other is not a new one, but the lease of life given to these two nameless, objectiveless swarms is fascinating. You have no idea where either “team” came from, but you need to defeat the other one – why? Its an impulse. To conquer is to be human. Just to say you’re better than someone – download Bacteria 2 and kick some red bacteria butt.
