Ack, zombies have taken over the whole town – so go blow their undead brains out!
In this, the first and so far only game from Cypher Edge Interactive, its really here – the end has come. It is the zombie apocalypse and you’re trapped right in the middle of it. The only way out is to get to the graveyard… to get there, you’ll have to destroy hundreds of swarming, brainsucking undead zombie scum. Good luck.
On your way to salvation, there are a few things you need to take care of – first, kill that batch of zombies in front of your house. Then, kill that other bunch at the shops. Then, kill that bunch near the railway track. Once you’ve done that – if you’ve managed to survive your slow shuffling foe – you can kill another bunch of them in the graveyard.
So the game play isn’t that inventive, but surely the choice of weapons is? Well, there are two weapons – one of them is a rocket launcher – although it didn’t seem to actually be in the game. It doesn’t matter though, as your default weapon has infinite ammunition, infinite range and can kill multiple zombies at once. You’ll find it can slaughter even the biggest onslaught in mere seconds.
The scoring in this game is rich and complex. It takes into account many things, such as: number of zombies killed vs. amount of ammunition fired; number killed vs. how many appeared in the game; and how long you’ve spent in “awesome mode”. Awesome mode is a reward for being a master zombie killer – fill the bar at the bottom of the screen and you super-size into the biggest pain bringer this side of a Leonard Nimoy record.
In whole, this game should be enjoyable. There are zombies, lots of them, and the game is actually called Ack! Zombies, there’s no reason for it not to be great. Unfortunately, an incredibly linear story and level design coupled with its very, very short amount of play time, hampers this release badly. However, it does look pretty good for a free game and there is a whole lot of killing to be had, so in the end the final verdict rests with you.
This is a good game, I love zombie games. The games not terribly deep, but if you wanna kill some zombies, this is the game for you!
